Minister Plasterk speaks approvingly on the new Delta Academy

On Wednesday 18 November minister Plasterk (Education, Culture and Science) opened the Delta Academy of HZ University of Applied Sciences: an academy for top-level programmes in the field of water, land and living in delta areas. The minister called the Delta Academy 'an example of sustainable and good quality education'.

The delta technology sector desperately needs more young professionals. Large staff deficits are predicted as a consequence of proportional rise in the ageing population and the necessary measures against climate change. The Delta Academy will provide this staff, among others by offering attractive programmes embedded in a very intensive cooperation with the professional field. Mr Plasterk spoke approvingly on this approach. ''This is thé way to keep highly-educated staff in the region.''
The opening took place in the Topshuis on Neeltje Jans and was attended by Karla Peijs, David Luteijn, professionals, lecturers and students.

Delta Academy
The Delta Academy combines the forces of the bachelor programmes Aquatic Eco technology (water management) and Civil Engineering (hydraulic engineering). For years, these bachelor programmes have ranked at the top in their respectives fields according to the Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs (www.keuzegids.org) (Selection guide Higher Professional Education). Together they are unbeatable in the Delta Academy. As from September 2010, but still subject to accreditation, the bachelor programme Delta Management & Design is starting (area development and planning). Moreover, a master programme is under construction.

The Delta Academy is unique because of its top-quality programmes (best water degree programmes), its international focus and the extremely intensive cooperation with the professional field.
